Story of Dling Chapter 1

Once upon a time in a vast mountain range in a quiet little city (pfffft) named Byako there lived a young man named Dling Aling. He was about six feet tall, covered in white fur and happened to be a bear. His parents immigrated to Byako when their entire mountain one day was pulled from their home world and found itself amidst a wide range of fellow mountain peeks in the center of a much wilder place.

For the longest time their lives continued without any change. The weather was not that dissimilar to their home and the community of albino bears had kept to themselves even before the mountain was pulled here.
After a time however a traveler happened upon the mountain. He had an appearance that none of the mountaineers had seen the like of before and he claimed himself to be a tinker. Peddling wares of strange magic and technology the likes of which they had never seen before.
He spoke of the mountains naming them the northern mountains (more for their climate than their location) and said that this entire mountain range was in face within a much larger city. This statement met with much doubt and skepticism since it seemed like such a tall tale but he insisted that this was a city with no known limit in size with vast oceans, large towns, teeming jungles and bizarre indescribable sights filled with things that they could hardly comprehend or imagine.

Even after this tinker left with a ba made slightly emptier of his possessions and pockets fuller of rich reward, Dling could not help but imagine with a head full of wonder the places he described. To Dling this city the tinker painted a picture of was a land of opportunity. A land of wonder.
Dling desired to see these places and as the days wore on into weeks and the weeks into months his desire continued to grow rather than dissipate. Finally when it grew to be to much, Dling declared his intention to leave and seek his fortune, finally committing himself to this decision. He promised to one day return home with great riches and despite their concern, his parents allowed him to make the journey.

So it was after a festive day of farewell that Dling set off. All he had to work with was a pack of supplies, a rough description of the route the tinker took and the little maps that Dling himself had drawn of the surrounding terrain to keep from getting lost.
It was nearly three weeks before Dling made it out of the northern mountains. During that time he crossed countless mountains, sighted many a savage creature and even noticed signs of other settlers within those mountains. (however he never met them.) Until he reached the last of the great mountains and looked on into that vast city.

What he saw looking out from that mountain peak was a vast mish mash of buildings and districts with little rhythm or pattern. He saw tall that reached the heavens. Wide roads with solid iron buildings lining it. Clustered together little rustic homes made entirely out of lemon sherbert and mountains and forests and roads that coasted the sky.
The city was as diverse as it was wonderous.

The view fascinated Dling who hardly expected to find such sights. A city that he now knew the peddler was unable to give justice too.

Aware that there was a very good chance he might get lost, Dling tok advantage of his current viewpoint at the peak of this mountain and took out ink and paper so he may draw up a map of the region before him from an overhead viewpoint which would help him find his way if he got lost in those confusing streets below.

And thus Dling decended into Byako….
