alright this here is a FAQ on Byako, explaining a few odd details about the city that some people might be curious about, you dont have to understand all of this or even much of it but it should help to give you a general idea


anyone with a question just ask! i love to field questions and its really no trouble at all

Q: what is byako?
byako is a large expansive city that stretches hundreds of hundreds of miles consisting of buildings, districts, small town, towns within the city, forests, farmland, mountains, aerial islands, an underground society and even a sea or three within city limits

BRR2 takes place in a section of Byako that is far distant from the part were all familiar with, ruled by the evil empire (which ironically isn't really that evil at all it just pretends to be)

Q:...what? how is all that part of one city?
well...theres this big wall that goes around byako and things just keep appearing within byako so its considered all part of one city

this wall encompasses all of byako and is believed to be near indestructible and able to fix itself up in a hurry if it does take any damage also this wall tends to expand to continue encompassing parts of byako as they fall in or grow on there own

Q: appeared? im confused ^_^;
okies! (i promise to get charts eventually)
example: one day you could be walking down mullberry street and take a turn on raspberry road
the next day you could follow the same route and find a whole new district between mullberry road and raspberry road
How it happens is unknown and it doesn't seem to be consistent either...
sometimes its like a chunk of another world just drifts in one day with people still inside
other times its as if it was built overnight devoid of people and open for populating
there are districts related to all manner of genres, time periods, worlds, other worlds time periods, alternate dimensions and other such insanity.
this culmination of strange twists has caused fairly interesting meetings to say the least
which doesn't compare to the unusual residents and 'natural' built locations that came out of these new locations creating something completely unknown to anywhere else
(have fun using your imagination on that)

new places pop up at times with little explanation, some coming from byako itself while others are bits and pieces of worlds across time and space and a multitude of multiverses, at these points it is possible to find a way to the world they originated from or to create one
also diffrent areas of the city may make magic inoperable or limit certain types of tecnoledgy, because some places are reliant on physics from the place they originated from it can cause unexpected results
in some cases magic might work better in a specific place while in others it is less effective, however places that are native to byako rarely have such effects if ever


Q: wait wait wait...so theres everything in byako?
everything? lets see...
well the city has no foreseen limit in size and new locations appear regularly at random like clockwork
and the populace certainly vary coming in all walks of life from normal folk, fruit elementals, deities, magic monkeys, steam bots, space age jet pack wearers, demons, angels, magical beings......
(this question has been discontinued due to the answerers brain melting trying to name em all)
but yes the city consists of many things original or based on other things
*cough depending whether its the cannon stories of byako were trying to make into something sellable or something anyone can take an interest in cough*
such as something completely original running into a yellow rodent riding a green dinosaur...dragon...thing to an old fellow with a fungus problem finding himself in a coliseum

keep in mind that there are no definites in byako a person who thinks something is impossible and it will never happen is usually proven wrong sooner or later...usually sooner


Q: but how in the plushy blue blazes does such a city run? something that large must grind to a halt without organization! no one body could control such a thing!

ah...you hit the nail on the head ^_^;
there have been a number of attempts to control the city by one single entity but it was deemed impossible and would end in chaos before long
after a fairly interesting history of problems involved in this, several dozen attempts and some civil war and other interesting things
(and an age where the city was a violent chaos that we will get to later)
it finally settled and came to be ruled by a number of factions that held dominance over whole chunks of the city
small governments that held sway over limited areas but with little militaristic power.
remnants of former government attempts that managed to survive and become independent entities.
and the clans...
powerful organizations that are considered the rulers of the city
some with great armies able to withstand attempts to dethrone them
others with control of some irreplaceable resource
and...*at a loss for words* other reasons ^_^;
(will come up with a clever thing later)
but even with all these people controlling so much of the city there are still many lawless places where there are no laws
places where crime goes unpunished...
or even areas left in ruins from battles long ago....
with such a large city anything can happen

BRR2
in the BRR2 chunk of byako it is primarily controlled by the evil empire which is a fairly more stable government than its original counterpart, however random events happen at a greater rate in this part of byako (see later question) also, there have been sighns of smaller groups coming into power recently and gaining control of small bits and pieces of the empire......

note: at the start of BRR2 there are no clans (in BRR2 byako)

Q: what are these random events i keep hearing about?
one of the strange things about byako are the random events, things can happen in the city that defy all explanation and thus are simply called random, without warning a torrential downpour of teddy bears could rain down, or chocolate syrup could come to life or your granny could visit
what is and isnt a random event is hard to say and there nearly impossible to predict

though some theorists point out that they are usually silly events that defy normal logic

in the tourney we set specific random events up to offer a creative challenge to our entrants

Q: and this thing about area shifts?
places in Byako shift around sorta like a mega localized fast forwarded tectonic shift (not in our sense but in a geological sense) meaning that a district (or depending on its location and size a whole building) could be in an entirely different location of the city months, even weeks later
this makes getting around byako a tad confusing and separates the good map makers from the amateurs

some places in byako are chained down to specific points however such as the railroad which connects to most districts, chaining a n area down to a specific spot is difficult to do and costs a pretty penny

Q: how come the clans are considered the city rulers?
It differs clan to clan but its either because
1. they hold a vast amount of territory or hold a vast wealth or a large army (or all of the above)
2. they do something for the city that if lost it would lead to chaos
3. they control through pure force ruling with an iron fist dealing with anyone who dares defy them
4. they have the love of the people which can be greater than any sword
5. they have some crazy silly wild card that nobody can anticipate

i will answer anymore questions that come up either from myself or others so feel free to ask

next post i will detail the clans, city rulers, city locations and various other odds and ends

in other news the anime Akahori Gedou Hour Rabuge is so fun!
it would scare kenty away due to some of its jokes but it is quite funny with its role reversalness XD
